Business trip to Izmir: where to stay for trade fairs and courses
· 9 min read

Whether you are exhibiting at a trade fair, meeting a supplier in the Aegean Free Zone, attending a seminar or starting a Turkish course, where you stay on a business trip to Izmir shapes how productive your days are. This guide explains where to base yourself, when residential Buca makes sense and what to check before you book.
Where should you stay on a business trip to Izmir?
In short: the closer you stay to your venue, the less time you lose in traffic. Depending on your trip, you may be heading for:
- Trade fairs: Many are held at the Fuar Izmir exhibition centre in Gaziemir, towards the airport, but not all, so check the venue on your invitation.
- The Aegean Free Zone: Also in Gaziemir, for meetings, audits and site visits.
- The Kemalpaşa Organised Industrial Zone: East of the city, for factory visits, installations and inspections.
- Language schools and courses: Most are in the city centre; Konak Clock Tower is approx. 9 km from Royal Palace Boutique Hotel in Buca.
- Seminars and exams at the Dokuz Eylül University Tınaztepe Campus (DEÜ): In Buca itself, approx. 3 minutes from the hotel.
If all your appointments are in the city centre and you have no car, a central hotel may save you the most time. Buca – a mainly residential district in the south-east of Izmir, inland rather than on the seafront – makes more sense if you are driving, have appointments in several of these areas or a programme at the Tınaztepe Campus, or are staying a week or more and want an apartment rather than a standard hotel room. After a long day, you can unwind with a walk around Buca Pond (Buca Göleti) or Hasanağa Garden, or past the district’s 19th-century Levantine mansions. Our guide to where to stay in Izmir compares the main areas.
Trade fair or Aegean Free Zone visit: is Buca a practical base?
It can be, especially if you are driving. The O-30 ring road, approx. 3 km from the hotel, links many of Izmir’s districts: it is a common route towards Gaziemir and the airport, and it also makes trips towards Kemalpaşa easier to plan. Journey times vary with the time of day, so check your route in a navigation app and allow extra time at rush hour. A few more tips:
- Book early for fair weeks: Large fairs bring many visitors to Izmir at once, so send your booking request as soon as your dates are fixed.
- Check the official website: Confirm the fair’s dates and how to register as a visitor.
- Free zone access: If your meetings are inside the Aegean Free Zone, ask your host how visitor entry works and which ID to bring.
- Flying in: Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport is approx. 20 minutes from the hotel. By public transport, take the İZBAN commuter train to Şirinyer, then a taxi or bus, and check current timetables with İZBAN and ESHOT. See our tips on staying near Izmir Airport for late arrivals and early flights.
Why stay near the DEÜ Tınaztepe Campus for a seminar or conference?
If you are attending a seminar, conference, exam or academic meeting at the Tınaztepe Campus, staying close by saves time every morning. Royal Palace Boutique Hotel is approx. 3 minutes from the campus, so:
- getting to early sessions is easier
- you can return to your apartment during the day to rest, change or go over your presentation
- a programme lasting several days does not mean a long journey every day
- when an event finishes in the evening, you are back in your room within minutes
Attending healthcare training or a meeting at Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital? The hospital is approx. 13 minutes from the hotel. See also our hotel near Dokuz Eylül University page and our guide to visiting Dokuz Eylül University.
Coming for a course, training programme or internship: how should you plan?
Company training, certificate programmes, Turkish language courses, exams and internships all run to a fixed schedule, so plan your stay around it. These steps will help:
- Confirm the timetable: Find out the start and end dates and whether day one begins with registration or an opening session; if you can, arrive the day before.
- Pin down the venue: Make sure you know the building and room, or the exact spot on campus, and check your route in advance.
- Prepare your documents: Carry invitation letters, enrolment confirmations or exam admission documents on paper and on your phone.
- Coming as a group: Consider separate apartments so that everyone can keep their own routine, and ask reception about availability early.
- Keep your evenings for rest: After an intensive day, the kitchenette in your apartment saves you going out in search of dinner.
For a course in the city centre, look up the rush-hour journey from Buca in a map app before you book a long stay. İnkılap metro station is approx. 15 minutes from the hotel; check current timetables with ESHOT, İZBAN and Izmir Metro.
Working remotely during your trip: what should your room have?
If you keep working while you travel, your room becomes a temporary office. Check these points:
- Internet: Video calls, large file transfers and cloud tools need a fast, stable connection. Royal Palace has 1000 Mbps fibre Wi-Fi; even so, test it with a short call before an important presentation.
- A space of your own: Every apartment has a seating area with a corner sofa and armchair, so you can take calls in peace rather than in a busy café.
- Breaks: An electric kettle and a coffee machine in the apartment, plus free tea, coffee and drinking water (large bottles), mean you can take a break without going out.
- Comfort and meals: Air conditioning lets you set the temperature, while the kitchenette and fridge mean you can eat when it suits you.
Short business trip or weekly project: what changes?
The length of your trip decides which amenities matter most.
| Topic | Short stay | A week or longer |
|---|---|---|
| Priority | Easy access and a quick check-in | Something close to a home routine |
| Key amenities | 24-hour reception, free iron, shampoo and shower gel | Kitchenette, free laundry service, daily housekeeping |
| Planning tip | Arriving late? Add your estimated arrival time to the note in your request | Mention preferences in your request, such as an apartment with a washing machine |
Short stays of a few nights
For a meeting, a fair visit or a two-day course, a quick check-in and a good night’s sleep matter most. The 24-hour reception offers express check-in, even late at night. You can borrow an iron free of charge from reception, and a hairdryer, shampoo, shower gel and disposable slippers are provided in the apartment, so you can travel lighter.
A week or longer
For a project, an installation, an audit or a longer training programme, a home-like set-up matters more. With a kitchenette, you do not have to eat out for every meal. Some apartments have a washing machine, and guests in the others can use the free laundry service; daily housekeeping with fresh bed linen and towels keeps things in order. In the one-bedroom suites (1+1), the bedroom is separate from the seating area, which helps keep work and rest apart. Stays of 7 nights or more may get a weekly discount, and stays of 28 nights or more a monthly one; see our page on monthly stays in Izmir.

If your company is paying, find out in advance which documents your expense claim will need. For questions about invoices or a stay with several colleagues, ask reception before you book – for a group, as early as possible, since Royal Palace has 16 apartments in all.
